Early Life and Education
Walid Jumblatt was born on August 7, 1949, in Beirut, Lebanon.
He is the son of Kamal Jumblatt, the founder of the Progressive Socialist Party (PSP) and a renowned leader of the Lebanese Druze community. Walid Jumblatt pursued his education at the American University of Beirut and the Sorbonne in Paris.
Ascendancy to Leadership and the Lebanese Civil War
In 1975, the Lebanese Civil War erupted, with Syria intervening on the side of the Christian Maronite militias.
