A Life of Destiny and Duty
Born in Cambridge, Massachusetts, on December 5, 1927, King Bhumibol Adulyadej was a third son and youngest child.
His father, Prince Mahidol of Songkla, passed away before Bhumibol was two years old. After his father's untimely demise, Bhumibol was educated in Thailand and then Switzerland.
Accession to the Throne
Following the tragic and unexplained death of his elder brother, King Ananda Mahidol (Rama VIII), Bhumibol Adulyadej ascended to the throne on June 9, 1946.
His coronation took place on May 5, 1950, after he had completed his studies in political science and law in Switzerl
